EPSRC/Science Foundation Ireland research and technology joint funding of research programme – standard research grants | These support research projects that cut across national boundaries involving collaborative teams led by researchers from the UK and Ireland. EPSRC Standard Research Grants | Standard Grants are very flexible, with the scale of projects supported ranging from small value, short term grants to multi-million pound research programmes. A wide variety of activities are supported, including feasibility studies, instrument development, equipment to support a number of research projects, overseas travel grants, and long-term proposals to develop or maintain critical mass. High risk/high return research proposals, embracing new concepts or techniques, are particularly encouraged.

EPSRC Programme Grants | Programme Grants are a flexible mechanism to provide funding to world-leading research groups to address significant major research challenges. They are intended to support a variety of activities focussing on one strategic research theme. Although it is expected that most proposals will be interdisciplinary and collaborative they can address key challenges in a single discipline. Applicants must discuss their suitability for Programme Grant funding with an identified EPSRC contact before submitting an Outline application.

EPSRC Overseas Travel Grants | Grants for international travel and subsistence so that researchers can visit non-UK centres for short periods of time to study new techniques or develop international collaborations. No limit on amount of funding. Please ensure you leave enough time for processing, which is currently at least 12 weeks before the proposed visit.

EPSRC Mathematical Sciences Small Grants Scheme | Small Grants are a mechanism for supporting mathematical sciences research which does not require funding at the level generally seen within standard mode. Applications to the mathematical sciences small grants scheme must focus on original research projects or feasibility studies for research projects. EPSRC is looking to support grants in the region of £10,000 – £80,000 at full economic cost (FEC, total amount up to £100,000) and up to 12 months in duration. Full proposals can be submitted at any time and will be considered by EPSRC on a rolling basis. This scheme will follow a non-standard format for submission and assessment, with standard EPSRC eligibility and assessment criteria being applied. Applicants as principal investigators or co-investigators can only hold one small grant at any one time. More information in this link. Requests for equipment over £10,000 in value should not be made. Holders of postdoctoral level fellowships are not eligible to apply for an EPSRC grant.
How to Apply: You should prepare and submit your proposal using the research councils’ Joint Electronic Submission system (Je-S).

EPSRC Network Grants | These support the creation of new interdisciplinary research communities and topics by developing interaction between the research community and appropriate science, technology and industrial groups. There is no limit to the amount of funding that can be applied for, however networks should last for up to three years.
