Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme (MSCA-PF) – call open
The fourth MSCA PF call under Horizon Europe is now open

We encourage potential supervisors to begin reaching out to their international networks to identify potential high quality candidates they wish to host at the University of Bristol and who are planning to apply.

Scope: The objective of PFs is to support researchers’ careers and foster excellence in research. The Postdoctoral Fellowships action targets researchers holding a PhD who wish to carry out their research activities abroad, acquire new skills and develop their careers. PFs help researchers gain experience in other countries, disciplines and non-academic sectors.

ERC Consolidator Grant

Consolidator Grants provide up to €2m over 5 years (€3m in special cases) for researchers 7-12 years post PhD completion. The ERC supports excellent investigators of all research fields to pursue ambitious, potentially ground-breaking research.  Applicant PIs should have a strong track record appropriate to their career stage and research field and can be based at the University of Bristol currently or intending to come to the University from any country in the world. The call will open in September and the deadline is expected to be in mid-January.

Please note that the ERC uses the date of the successful PhD defence to calculate eligibility.  This means that applicants will need to have had their PhD viva between 1 January 2013 and 31 December 2017 (inclusive) unless an extension for maternity leave (18 months per child), paternity leave, long-term sickness etc applies.
ERC writing retreats: The EU team is running writing retreats on 5, 8 and 19 July 2024 for those working on ERC applications to upcoming calls across ERC schemes. These provide an opportunity to work independently on your idea/proposal in a focused way, with the EU team on hand to answer questions. We also hope to run some retreats in November/December.  Please contact Laura.Lyddon@bristol.ac.uk if you are interested in attending.

 Swiss National Science Foundation International Co-Investigator Scheme

This supports and facilitates cross-border collaboration between European research partners by funding sub-projects conducted by Swiss-based researchers abroad. Grants are worth at least CHF 50,000 each for a period of one to four years.

Faraday Institute Industry Fellowships

These strengthen ties between industry and academic battery researchers in the UK with the aim of establishing or enhancing collaborative research with the potential for near- and longer-term benefit to the UK battery industry. Fellowships cover salary costs and may last between three months and one year.

Royal Society Faraday Discovery Fellowships (due to open on 14 August 2024)

Any internal processes associated with the call will be communicated. 

The  Royal Society Faraday Discovery Fellowships are prestigious long-term awards that will support emerging research leaders to undertake high-quality, original research. The programme is aimed at outstanding mid-career STEM researchers and will provide grants of up to £8m over a ten-year period to support the development of world-leading research groups in UK Universities and research Institutes. Leverhulme Visiting Professorships
(1st round in 2025)

Level of funding: £10,000 – £150,000. For UK institutions to invite an eminent senior professor from overseas, to bring genuinely novel expertise and enhance the skills and knowledge of academic staff and students in an underrepresented area in the UK. Priority will be given to new or recent collaborations and visits with a variety of activities beyond research.  A Visiting Professorship may last for between 3 and 12 months, and tenures of 6 months or more can be spread over 2 or more visits.

ERC Starting Grant

The internal process for the European Research Council  Starting Grant (europa.eu) scheme is now open.  Starting Grants provide up to €1.5m over 5 years (€2.5m in special cases) for researchers 2-7 years post PhD completion. The ERC supports excellent investigators of all research fields to pursue ambitious, potentially ground-breaking research.  Applicant PIs should have a strong track record appropriate to their career stage and research field and can be based at the University of Bristol currently or intending to come to the University from any country in the world. The call will open in the Summer and the deadline is expected to be in late October.

Internal Deadline: 13 May 2024 (however applications can be submitted and reviewed in advance of this deadline)
